2nd Grade students at Baxterville School recently studied The Roundup at Rio Ranch written by Angela Sheif Medearis. To wrap up their study of the story they had a Cowboy Day Celebration. Local resident Matthew Hawthorn brought a mustang to campus. He taught the students about the history of mustangs as well as how to care for and saddle a horse. Students were able to pet the horse. Students were also given a chance to try to rope a dummy steer. Following the presentation by Mr. Hawthorn students enjoyed cowboy soup and smores.
