Parent Involvment
Baxterville School
School Year 2010 - 2011

Parent/guardian conferences to provide information and solicit input regarding student services, programs, and progress including the following:
  1. "Meet the Teacher" prior to the start of school.
  2. "Open House" for parents to meet staff.
  3. Conferences to discuss MCT2 results or questions/concerns of parent or teacher.
Timely response to recommendations made by the public.

Input through surveys and public meetings:
  1. Assimilation of data received through surveys is studied and follow-up is completed.
  2. Quarterly PTO meetings for parental questions and answers.
  3. Handwritten questions and concerns are handled with a phone call from the principal, teacher, or counselor.
Informational programs at PTO meeting to explain the various Educational programs:
  1. Programs are discussed during the meetings with input taken under advisement.
  2. Programs and Suggestions that Title I funds are discussed during annual District Title I meetings.
Parent notice regarding their child's participation in Special Education programs:
  1. Teachers and support staff meet regularly with parents to discuss IEPs or reevaluations.
  2. Students are placed on the Tier process with parents being notified by phone and conferences.
Parental assistance for promoting education of their child at home:
  1. Parents as Teachers provide assistance with general parenting skills that can help with school activities.
  2. Teachers also provide websites and other education resources for parents requesting assistance.
  3. Monthly Parent Advisory Committee meetings.
A written parent involvement policy:
  1. Parents and students sign a statement of agreement in the handbook.
  2. Parents, teachers, students, and administration sign a contract to ensure everyone's concern and roles in the educational process.
A school performance profile informing parents about the state's system of standards and assessment and the National Educational Goals:
  1. Parents are informed by a letter mailed to each student informing them of the school's profile.
  2. A copy of this letter is on file in the office for viewing at any time.
A school-parent compact setting out the respective responsibilities of the children, the school, and the parents regarding their child's education.

Opportunities for parents/guardians and teachers to provide input regarding program implementation:
  1. Teachers are given the opportunity to attend conferences to evaluate programs and their effectiveness.
  2. Parents are given the opportunity to provide input during conferences and PTO meetings.
